46th FRCS Higher Surgery Course – 26 September – 4 October 2020 *Virtual Course*
Please note that due to the current Covid-19 situation we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the May 2020 Higher Surgery Course. The course has been postponed until 26 September – 4 October 2020 and will take place virtually.
Higher Surgical Course in general surgery before final FRCS exit exams (intercollegiate exams). The course is traditionally 7 full days (virtual course is spread over 9 days) and typically occurs twice yearly in January and May, however due to Covid-19 this course will take place in Sept/Oct 2020. The course has both clinical, practical and viva sessions, along with interactive lectures and symposiums.
Designed specifically to prepare candidates for the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in General Surgery, this intensive seven day course offers:
- Clinical Sessions
- Practice vivas in general and sub-specialty surgery, critical care and academic surgery
- Tutorials on sub-speciality topics
- Authoritative state of the art lectures
- Symposia
NOTE: The Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in General Surgery consists of two parts. The first part comprises a two hour multiple choice paper and a further two hour paper using extended matching questions. The second part is a clinical and oral examination. Candidates are not allowed to take the clinical and oral examination (part 2) unless they have passed part 1.
The Higher Surgery Course does not at present offer teaching directed specifically towards the MCQ and EMQ papers though the course content will be relevant to them. Candidates may choose to attend the course either before sitting Part 1 or before sitting Part 2 as they prefer.
Observers can attend all sessions but will observe only in the practice clinical and viva sessions and therefore will not be examined.
