Celebrating change and improvement at Whipps Cross
WXMERT supports the Celebrating change and improvement at Whipps Cross by providing prizes to the worthy winners.
End of the year Extravaganza
The aim of the event was to give an opportunity for teams to present some of projects they’ve been working on and highlight the good quality improvement work that’s being undertaken at Whipps Cross.
Teams across the hospital were invited to submit projects that look at making change and help improving a specific department, a pathway, patients’ experience and so on.
A total of 16 teams sent their proposals and presented their projects at the event. All of them were very inspirational projects across a range of specialties including medicine, urology and anaesthetics.
At the event, a panel with consultant James Green, and Debbie Brazil, head of quality and efficiency improvement, judged the quality and benefits of the projects and crowned the winners.
This event, which took place last time in 2019, was also timed with the introduction of new doctors to encourage next year (2022-2023) to have a quality improvement focus on what we do at the hospital.
And the winners are…
- The first place went to Funmi Akinde with the “Post Op Cognitive Decline in fractured neck of femur (NOF) fracture patients” project.
- The second place joint winner went to Etienne Chew and Kelvin Adasonla for the “’One-stop’ urgent cancer pathways in urology: What do patients really want?” project and Sophie Bruce, Mike Hadjihari and Helen Fielden for the “Bone protection in OPS patients”.
- The joint first place clinical project went to Anna Wakelin for the “Medication education in psychiatry” project and Tanmay Sukthankar for the “Transnasal gastroscopy; challenging the status quo”.
The winners received a generous prize from the of Waltham Forest Medical Education and Research Trust. At the event, attendees also voted for best educator and best teaching session 2021/2022.
Changing and improving what we do
Cameron Green, chief registrar and organiser of the event, said that a lot of good quality improvement work is undertaken at Whipps Cross and sometimes it just needs highlighting, which is why this event was created.
He said: “I’m really glad the event could come together and more importantly the amazing response from the teams across the hospital. It showed that there are lots of people interested in change and improvement – which is the dynamic workforce a hospital will benefit from.
The pandemic has changed a lot of how hospitals now function and the added pressure on NHS services can sometimes make people forget about all the good work being done.”
The hope is to keep running the event every year to keep showcasing the fantastic work that takes place behind the scenes at our hospital.
A big thank you to everyone involved in the event for their support and for making it a success!
